FORT STREET BASCULE BRIDGE
$46.3 Million • Wayne County, Michigan • MDOT
Winning the award for a record-setting, single-leaf bascule bridge proves Toebe's innovation can also be economical. The Fort Street Bridge, a 176-ft bascule span in Detroit, is the heaviest bascule leaf in the world and second largest by deck area. It is also one of the most efficient to open due to the rolling-lift design.
Toebe, as the General Contractor, completed the project by replacing the Fort Street bascule bridge, performing roadway reconstruction, utility relocation, and maintaining traffic on M-85 over the Rouge River in the city of Detroit, Michigan.
The project was completed in partnership with:
- Designer/EOR: Hardesty & Hanover
- Fabricator: Steward Machine Co., Inc. (AISC Member/AISC Certified)
- Owner: Michigan Department of Transportation
- Detailer: Tenca Steel Detailing, Inc. (AISC Member)
